It was GRAND alright!

I've been meaning to tell you a bit about our glorious trip to the Grand Canyon, but summer has been speeding by around here. It's both cliche and true that photos don't do it justice. It's just an extraordinary thing that you must experience in person. Special thanks to Momma D and Daddy G for making it such a special trip.

One of my favorite parts was the raft ride we took down the Colorado River to the entrance of the park. There you'll find the residence of J. Hislop, one of the first settlers to the area, who ran a ferry across the river.

When traveling in the United States, I love to imagine what it must have been like for those first adventurous souls. Their interaction with the landscape was so completely different from the easy zip along the interstate we take for granted now.

I loved looking at this humble stone house and imagining the immense quiet and solitude that he lived in every single day. It's hard to imagine how deeply that would shape your spirit and view of the world. Of course, it's easy to romanticize such an existence when it is left to imagination. In reality, I'm sure it was filled with lots of dust, brutal heat, unruly flash floods and rattlesnakes, not to mention the battles waged against your own mind. Quite different from my life at any rate.

Take a peek at all our photos over here if you like! Have you ever been to the Grand Canyon? What did you think?
