One of the must see tourist stops in Hong Kong is the Tian Tian Buddha which is the largest Buddha statue in the world, provided you insert the words "seated, outdoor and bronze" first. But why quibble? It really is extraordinary. Amy and Erik were gracious enough to take us even though they have already seen the Buddha more than once.
We got an early start and found the mountain shrouded in fog. We rode up through the steep hills in a tram through fog so thick we felt like we were in a snowstorm.
A circle of devotees sit at the Buddha's feet offering him various gifts, including lotus blossoms, incense and peaches.
Of course, the pictures don't really do it justice. It was so ethereal. When we began up the steps we couldn't make out the figure at all. It wasn't until we were right beside it that we could make out the features of his face.
Thanks to our wonderful hosts for a fabulous weekend!
