Just a summer Trifle...

I saw this pretty dessert on Nigella Express (is there a sexier cook on television? I love how she describes absolutely every color and texture she works with and then tastes everything. She's so sensual!) and I couldn't resist whipping up my own version. Here's what you need:

1 pint of heavy whipping cream
2 spoonfuls of sugar (I used half Splenda)
2 containers of fresh berries (Nigella used strawberries, but I opted for raspberries)
1 box of ready made meringue cookies nicely bashed up into crumbs

Whip up the cream and sugar, until you have lovely fluffy clouds of cream. Nigella adds sugar to the berries, but I felt they really didn't need any, especially with the super sweet meringues. She also mixes everything together before serving, but I made sort of a trifle in a martini glass so that everyone could mix them up themselves. All told, this served 6 people to rave reviews. I think its absolutely perfect for the fourth of July and if you added some blueberries it would be quite patriotic looking too. Enjoy!

Just go with the sugar Becky, unless you like the flavor better. They are starting to show that artificial sweeteners still cause an insulin response. This causes you to store a lot of the calories you do eat, leaves you unsatisfied, and you get hungry sooner. I don't trust anything that tastes good doesn't get digested or absorbed.

Yes, there is a sexier cook on television. Giada De Laurentiis.

David: Giada is gorgeous, but I've often heard it said that one should never trust a skinny chef...that said, I'll yield to Steve's superior chemistry knowledge and switch back to sugar. (It tastes better anyway!)
