The Chicken or the Egg?

This clever take on the egg timer
will keep me from burning batches of cookies in China (a frequent occurrence since my Fahrenheit to Celsius calculations are quite hazy)I'm told that I'm quite lucky to have an oven here at all since Chinese people don't use them for anything. Their bread might be steamed, but mine is baked and its best not to overdo it.
