Embroidered Paintings

Our apartment is filled with all sorts of strange nooks and crannies. This little ledge sports a giant plexi-glass vase containing a row of bamboo branches. Or at least it did, until I found these great embroidered "paintings". They are quite small and unbelievably...well, you know, cheap (about $3 each, framed, matted and all!). Chinese embroidery has a long history and these are definitely not as elaborate as some, but even so, I spent a long time in the shop trying to decide on my favorite and then decided, aw heck, I"m just gonna buy 'em all. I think my current favorite is the kites, but the chickens and laundry are a tied for second. And there are so many more where this came from. They really run the gamut from terribly cheesy (gigantic wolves in gold guilded frames) to totally wonderful folk art (people harvesting rice on silk dyed to look like a sunrise). I'm imagining them in a child's room someday or in a little row in a kitchen. I have a feeling I'll be buying more every time I go past the shop.
