Martha Stewart Cookbook Giveaway

Happy Giveaway Day! This lovely book is a treasure trove of goodies from the Martha Stewart Living archives- you know, back when Martha wasn't trying to be Good Housekeeping. Back whe she was her very fancy, very artisanal, eternally elegant, always inspiring, often intimidating- self.

Even the endpapers are fancy!

Pages of gorgeous photography and layouts...

(Just LOOK at those scallops!) Delicious recipes.

And let's not forget the flowers and cake stands! All this inspiration can be yours, just leave me a comment describing a memorable meal and why it has stuck with you. (Was it the ambiance? The company? The occasion? Or was the food itself the occasion? I do love hearing your stories!)

Extra entries may be had by:

Following The Fab Miss B (via Google Friend Connect and/or Networked Blogs- the links are right on this page in the left hand sidebar.)

Just make sure to leave additional comments for each of your entries. I'll select a winner at random sometime in the next week or so. Good Luck Dearies!

  1. Great giveaway! My most memorable meals have always been potlucks. It's so much fun to see what dishes your friends come up with, and then you're not stuck doing all of the cooking yourself and can concentrate on other fun things like decorations.

  2. becky! scorpio woman! you are so darling! i hope this finds you and yours beyond well and wonderful! but as usual, i digress, so okay....memorable meal you ask? (it was just our anniversary so this one's kinda easy, lol, and it ain't a short story...um...not when i tell it, lol!) here goes: me and rob where in london for our wedding. we'd just exchanged vows under a ceiling full of rueben's paintings at the throne of whitehall banqueting palace when the publicist who threw the ceremony together for us asked: where are you going for your wedding luncheon? someplace special? ummm...yeah, sure...thought we'd go to the Savoy for luncheon, why? do you have reservations she snickered? um....noooooooooo, why? anyhow, off she ran to the far corner of the room where she gestered wildly to her assistants! a few minutes later the assistants came back, grabbed the champagne goblets from our fists mid guzzle and escorted us to a cab curbside that in turn, whisked us to the Savoy where we were hurredly seated at the most amazing view table one could imagine! Throughout the meal, I had to continually fight the urge not to get up and go look over the balcony to see who got upended from their table and thrown down into the bushes by the river for gawd's sake just to make room for us since on mr. toad's wild ride to the savoy, the cabby told us in awe that there was like a six week wait for reservations and that young lady had had to pull quite a few strings to get us a freakin table, phew! And if that wasn't enough to make it memorable, the meal was made all the more memorable when the waiter said, and I quote: The Dover Sole is never more than 12 hours old madame! OMG! I almost snickered! And it was divine! Every morsel of this special meal was beyond amazing! Down to the little bitty hand made chocolates with S initials on them! (for Shulman, right?) that we were served at the end of our meal and the teeny weeny vase with the initial S on it (for SHULMAN, right, lol?) that the waiter gifted us with that was right off the center of the table. (no...we did not steal it!) He actually gave it to us...but he did have us smuggle it out, lol! We still have this momento...and i take it out on anniversaries. it's great for breakfast in bed tablescapes, tee hee! and yes, I still think of that meal fondly...and wonder if the lovely folks who gave up their table for us--mid luncheon--are still shaking their heads in amazement over how fast their freakin bill arrived that day!
best to you in HAWAII--big island, right!!! Are you surfin yet? best place on earth to learn! if it's still there: on the north shore of oahu, pat's at punaloo is so much fun!!! great atmosphere and awesome food! be well!!!!! love, lauren & rob

  3. What a fun giveaway! I read your blog via Google Reader and don't often comment, but definitely enjoy your writing.

I had a memorable meal this very week. Previously intimidated by the expensive taste of my steak-loving husband and in-laws coupled with my inexperience in the nuances of steak cookery, I decided to boldly attempt their all-time favorite: Fillet Mignon. Despite my trepidation and thanks to a great recipe, the meat turned out flavorful and tender and everyone liked it enough to suggest a repeat performance sometime. Whew! There's nothing like nervous anticipation and subsequent relief to brand an experience on the memory. :-)

  4. I used to love watching old-school Martha with my parents growing up!

A memorable dinner...my first Fall Feast, which has now become an annual thing. It was the first time I went all out and made a more gourmet menu (for me at the time) of chicken cordon bleu, rosemary garlic new potatoes, veggies (don't remember what kind now) and cheesecake. I invited my closest family and friends to share in a delicious meal they didn't have to lift a finger to prepare or clean up after. I loved it, and so did they! It's a kindness I can give to my inner circle and I love to do it!

  6. The most memorable meal I've ever had was a dinner with my family. At that time, our family are having economical problems. But that day was my mother's birthday, so my dad brought us to a high-profile restaurant for a dinner. We had a great time.

  10. I would say the most memorable meal that I have had was an upscale dinner in a restaurant that used to be a funeral home. The food was outstanding, but the ambiance gave me the heebie jeebies.

  13. I wish I could tell you the name of the restaurant but that's vanished into history. :) However, when we were on vacation a few years ago in Seattle, we had an AMAZING meal. I'm not a pate lover but it was a pate with rainier cherries as an app. and then fresh Washington salmon steamed, again with cherries. The whole meal was amazing and we had SUCH a good time!!

  15. The dinner that first popped into my mind when I read this was my birthday dinner one year my mom had made me. It was just a simple lasagna with garlic bread and salad, but it was truely the definition of comfort food! It's actually turned into the ONE dinner I always request her to make each year on my birthday!! I love you, Mom!
