Christmas in the Heart Contest

"Christmas in the heart puts Christmas in the air." This is the quote that is inspiring me this holiday season. And nothing kills the Christmas in my heart like the soulless "buy! buY!! BUY!!!" music that starts playing immediately after Halloween. This is my antidote to all of that. Leave me a comment describing your favorite holiday tradition and you'll be entered in a contest for one of my mixed CD's of sweet, old fashioned Christmas tunes.

I have 2 favorite Christmas traditions. . . one is driving around through the neighborhoods that really go all-out on the Christmas lights. This has evolved now that I'm older and now that I live in 'Burque to bundleing up and walking through the areas that go all-out on luminarias/farolitos on Christmas Eve. My other favorite tradition is decorating or making the Christmas tree at my Mom's house. We used to make a different tree out of different materials every year. Once we even painted one and hung it on the wall because our apartment was too small for a 3-D tree. Now she has a pre-lit wire frame tree that we make different ornaments for every year. We did coffee cups and coffee bean ornaments, oragami ornaments, snowflake cookie ornaments, always something different and homemade. Fun and pretty! Carrying the tradition over to my own house, I made a golf ball tree in honor of my golf-obsessed love. Merry Christmas!

We have a Christmas tradition that my daughter (now 20) started when she was little. None of us have *any* idea how it started, and it is kind of bizarre, but here goes.

When we decorate the Christmas tree we *have* to have "Beverly Hills Cop" on the TV. The first one. Every time.

One of our other traditions before we moved, was to drive around and look at all the rich people's houses all lit up. We since moved to a place where people go all out for Halloween, but Christmas? not so much.

Since the first year DH and I were married (12 years ago) we have always spent Christmas Eve night and Christmas morning in our own beds at home. I wanted that small amount of time (some years only 12 hours) just for ourselves. I figured if we were old enough to be married, then we should stop spending the night with our parents. It really helped to establish ourselves as a discrete family.
