Artists to Investigate: Jennifer Maestre

This amazing brooch is created entirely from little pencil segments. I love how the different slices are employed to create this striking pattern. Jen uses epoxy to give a shiny, hard coat to her creations.

I'm definitely toying with buying this one for myself. Isn't it dramatic? (And it just so happens to also be my two most favorite colors.)

When I was working at boutiques in Chicago, fancy Lincoln Park ladies used to come in hunting for "teacher gifts" all the time. There are two teachers in my family, and they both have an overwhelming collection of apple related tchotchkies busily collecting dust. I think these earrings would be a great alternative.

Check out more of Jen's detailed work here. She told me she has been getting a lot of interest from Hong Kong galleries, so I'm hoping she does a show there soon. I'll be there!
