Sitting here in The Flying Star, the site of my first date with my best friend Jessica. She's at work, and I'm entertaining myself for six hours or so. It feels good to be alone. Eric and I have rarely been separated in the course of our travels, and I'm relishing time to myself. I wrote out mother's day cards and had dinner, checked my e-mail, wandered through some shops here on Nob Hill and thought.
I remembered when I first came to Albuquerque and how I felt like a great weight was slowly being lifted from my shoulders. This is a charming town, big and spread out, but with three or four cool little epicenters. My favorite is still the little stretch on Central that runs past the University and is lined with boutiques and restaurants. It is funny how little has changed here in the past four years. So much has happened in my life since then, and it feels good to be back here and mull it all over.
